This nostalgic garden was based around an old police station/house within a country
setting in the 1950's. There was a cottage-style front garden and allotment area with
home-grown vegetables. The overall appearance of the garden was charming and
lived-in with a lean-to, washing line, old mangle, compost bins and a water butt.
The path was edged with fragrant sweet peas. The garden also included an original
Anderson Shelter, which the policeman used as a bike store and potting area. The
garden provided a haven for wildlife and planting and included many old favourites
and native species. There was a gentle pastel colour scheme interspersed with
shots of colour.
Visitors to the garden walked through the Old Police House where they were handed
especially designed personal safety information packs. We were absolutely delighted
to be given a gold medal, the tudor rose 'best of show' award and the BBC peoples
choice award.
